For his latest collectible release, KAWS brought back his astronaut Companion and sent him to space. The AllRightsReserved-teamed project uses the same series of Companion as the one used for his redesign of the MTV Music Video Awards Moonman in 2013.
To celebrate 20 years of KAWS Companion and an extension of the KAWS:HOLIDAY rollouts in Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong, Japan, and now in space, the artist expressed in a statement: “So many projects have been canceled this year. I wanted to create one that could be experienced safely from home. Because this year marks 20 years since I created COMPANION, I tried to find a way around all the restrictions and do something special. I felt so confined the past few months that creating a project like this has really given me a chance to escape.”
The KAWS:HOLIDAY SPACE was sent to space on the altitude of 41.5 kilometers via a sounding balloon for a two-hour zero gravity walk through the stratosphere before coming back to Earth.
The collectible comes in three reflective colorways of gold, silver, and black and it’s 11.5 inches tall. You can find it exclusively on the DDT store on Monday, August 17 at 10 p.m. EDT. The price is still unknown.
